When you have a snowy winter like this one, the only way to enjoy it is to join in on some winter sports! Check out the nearest spots to Buffalo Grove to enjoy sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

 

Sledding:

Buffalo Grove

Willow Stream Park, 600 Farrington Dr.

Lake County Forest Preserves

Old School, Saint Mary’s Road just south of Route 176, and north of Route 60
Open until sunset, when conditions allow sledding.

Lakewood Winter Sports Area, Route 176, just west of Fairfield Road

Cross-country skiing:

Lake County Forest Preserves

Lakewood’s Winter Sports Area and Old School both have groomed trails when conditions allow. Grooming is typically done two days after a large snow fall. A 4-inch snow base is required for cross-country skiing at the Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods.

Buffalo Grove

Snowmobiling:

Lake County Forest Preserves

Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve, Grayslake
Des Plaines River Trail, from Russell Road to just south of Wadsworth Road. Parking and trail access is provided at Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve just east of Route 41 at Russell Road and at the Wadsworth Road Canoe Launch.
With four inches of snow or more and when conditions allow, snowmobile trails are open from 6:30 am to 11 pm Sunday–Thursday, and 6:30 am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
