Madrigal performances
Stevenson High School will be holding its annual Madrigal performances at noon and at 6 p.m. on Sunday (March 17).
This annual tradition began back in 1965 and this year’s co-curricular program is entitled “Harvest Heist.” The community is invited to enjoy a cappella singing, acting, dancing, trumpeters and a string ensemble. The event is organized around a student written script.
Tickets range in price from $15 for children/students and seniors up to $20-$25 for adult tickets. Tickets include a meal and will be held at Buffalo Grove’s Arboretum Club on Half Day Road. Sponsorships are also being accepted for favorite performers and to support this wonderful group. Ticket and sponsorship inquiries can be directed to Carol Freeman at carol-pt@comcast.net or (847) 913-0378.
BGHS Blood Drive
Buffalo Grove High School’s Senior Class Board will host its annual Blood Drive under the auspices of LifeSource Blood Services from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (March 14) in the school gymnasium. Buffalo Grove High School is located at the corner of Arlington Heights and Dundee Roads in Buffalo Grove.
Community members are welcome to join students, staff, and parents in making a life-saving 10-minute donation. The entire process takes a total of about 45 minutes, from registration to refreshments. Potential donors, ages 16-80, must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Students ages 16-18 should pick up a packet in the main office which includes a parental permission slip. A mini-physical is part of the procedure, in which a nurse will take the pulse, blood pressure, temperature and test hemoglobin levels. A photo I.D. is required to donate blood. Donors are asked to prepare well for their donation by eating and arriving well hydrated.
To make an appointment for a donation, call the BGHS main office at (847) 718-4000 or Senior Class sponsor Karen Roberts at (847) 718-4345.
BGHS Students of the Month
An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as the February 2013 Student of the Month.
Student Services has named sophomore Caleb Jones of Buffalo Grove as its Student of the Month.
Jeff Siegal, instructional assistant and head cheerleading coach, said: “Caleb is a responsible, honest, giving, involved, and helpful student-athlete and leader. He has learned to balance school and athletics, is very diligent in his studies, and a definite asset in classroom discussions. Caleb is highly motivated and the kind of student who genuinely wants to do well, and is willing to listen to criticism and learn from it. Pleasant and courteous to others, Caleb is highly respected by his peers and staff. As a member of the BGHS state champion cheerleading squad, he learned how to work not only with guys, but also with girls. He was one of the quiet leaders on the floor and would never let his team down.”
