Buffalo Grove HS announces students of the month, Expressions schedule

January Students of Month
Buffalo Grove High School has chosen students of the month for January, with selections based on the efforts and contributions of one student in each of the six divisions of the school.
Freshman Okemia “Macy” Brakes of Wheeling was nominated as English/Fine Arts Student of the Month by English teacher Robin Paul.
Sophomore Sabrina Poulsen of Wheeling was nominated by Mandarin Chinese teacher Caili Chiu to be honored as the World Languages/Social Science/English Language Learners Student of the Month.
Junior Joshua Leung of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for Student Services.
The Math/Science department recognized sophomore Rashel Ott of Wheeling for her achievements.
Career and Technical Education selected senior Dan Ruppert of Arlington Heights as the department’s honoree.
Sophomore Alicia Kantor of Arlington Heights has been named the Physical Education / Health / Driver’s Education Student of the Month.
Expressions schedule
Buffalo Grove High School’s award-winning Expressions Show Choir will present its next competition preview performance at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the school’s Miller Theater, 1100 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove.
The Expressions also will compete at the DeKalb Show Choir Invitational in Auburn, Ind., Feb. 9. On March 2, the group will then compete in the Chicagoland Showcase at John Hersey High School. On March 9, the Expressions will compete in the Wheaton-Warrenville South Show Choir Competition.
The Expressions recently competed at the Mt. Zion Invitational in Decatur, where the group won “Best Band” and placed “1st Runner Up” in overall performance. Junior Brian McCallister won “Male Grand Champion” for the individual solo competition.
The Expressions, a mixed show choir made up of 41 singer-dancers, 13 band members and four crew members, is directed by Debora Utley and choreographed by Randy Sage.
