Vernon Library group offers $2,000 scholarship

LINCOLNSHIRE­ — March 1 is the final day to apply for the $2,000 annual Friends of the Vernon Area Library Allen Meyer Memorial Scholarship.

Applicants must live within the Vernon Area Public Library District, be in their senior year of high school, and have been accepted into a higher education program for the 2013-14 school year. They also must be able to describe in an essay how the library has affected their life or educational goals.

Applicants should submit a completed online form, a letter of reference, a letter of acceptance and a copy of the student’s most recent high school transcripts. The online form is available on the Vernon Area Public Library website, www.vapld.info; look in the menu under Community, then Allen Meyer Scholarship.

Please email letters and transcripts to friends@vapld.info.

Limit one submission per student. The prize can be used to cover any college-related expenses.

The scholarship is offered by the Friends of the Vernon Area Public Library in honor of former Library Director Allen Meyer, who passed away in 2008.
