Police charge Stevenson student with dealing drugs

LINCOLNSHIRE — After treating a Stevenson High School student who overdosed on a drug last week, Lincolnshire police arrested a classmate, accusing him of dealing.
At the end of school on Dec. 11, school officials called police and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District medics to the aid of a juvenile student who had overdosed on Xanax. Medics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where the student was treated and released.
While investigating the overdose, police found information about the possible dealer. Officers then located the suspect in the nearby Metra parking lot — Matthew R. Sanders, 17, of 9 Debill Court, Vernon Hills.
After obtaining a warrant, police searched the Cadillac Eldorado that Sanders was driving, and allegedly discovered 39 Xanax pills, 13 grams of marijuana and slightly more than $300 in cash. One pill usually sells for between $5 and $10, investigator Adam Hyde said.
Police charged Sanders as an adult with three felonies — delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute — along with possession of marijuana. He posted bond for release from Lake County Jail; his next court date was undetermined at Pioneer’s press time.
