BUFFALO GROVE — A 1-in-200 chance became reality Thursday for A.J. Perez, who was dropped off at school that morning on a vehicle much cooler than a bus: a fire truck.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department rolled up to Tripp Elementary School with Perez, a second-grader, as its passenger. The seven-year-old won a Golden Ticket from firefighters on Halloween night, affording him the special transportation.

Firefighters hit the streets on Halloween, giving out 1,000 bags of goodies to trick-or-treaters; five of those bags contained Golden Tickets. Perez was the first Golden Ticket recipient to cash his prize in.
