BG motorcyclist struck by SUV in Long Grove

A motorcyclist from Buffalo Grove was hospitalized Monday night after colliding with a sport utility vehicle allegedly driven by a man under the influence of alcohol in Long Grove.

According to press releases from the Long Grove Fire Protection District and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the intersection of Old Route 53 and Robert Parker Coffin Road.

The GMC Arcadia, driven by Joseph V. Cardinale, 43, of the 11000 block of South Sawyer, Chicago, struck the motorcycle being driven by Anthony J. Brust, 21, of Buffalo Grove, the reports state. Cardinale was turning left from southbound Coffin to eastbound 53 when he struck the westbound Brust.

“The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle and was laying unconscious and unresponsive on the side of the road,” the fire district’s report states. “The motorcyclist was treated for life threatening injuries and transported to the Level I Trauma Center at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.”

The driver of the SUV was uninjured, according to both reports. Neither had passengers.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Cardinale and charged him with driving under the influence and failure to yield. He posted a $3,000 bond.

The Sheriff’s Office’s accident investigators were at the scene until about 10:50 p.m., the Long Grove report states.
