Buffalo Grove police said they had to use a Taser to subdue a man armed with a screwdriver who was resisting arrest last weekend.
Deputy Chief Steve Husak said the incident began at 5:50 p.m. Aug. 3 on the 900 block of Shady Grove Drive; a few days prior, a man and woman who live together there had gotten into an argument, and the woman told the man not to come home. On Aug. 3, the man returned unannounced, and the argument continued.
“He ended up striking her,” Husak said.
The woman called police; when the arrived, the man had walked to a neighbor’s house, and had a screwdriver in his hand. Husak said the officers informed the man that he was under arrest for battery and instructed him to drop the screwdriver, but he refused.
A struggle ensued as officers tried to arrest him; Husak said they fired a Taser at the man to subdue him. During the struggle, two of the neighbor’s cars suffered scratch damages. No officers were hurt.
The police arrested Esteban Plata, 39, charging him with domestic battery, resisting a peace officer and two counts of criminal damage to property.
