The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Buffalo Grove police department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
BURGLARY
Someone entered a residence on the 200 block of Cherrywood Road through an unlocked door on Jan. 30, causing the home’s two dogs to bark. The barking awoke one of the homeowners, who thought nothing of it and went back to sleep. When the family awoke later, they discovered two laptop computers and a wallet were gone.
Someone broke into a house between Jan. 22 and Feb. 1 on the 300 block of Dundee Road, stealing china and a camera, causing a $1,300 loss.
ALCOHOL
Theodore G. Gimza, 58, of the 2200 block of Nichols Road, Arlington Heights was arrested Feb. 4 at the intersection of Lake Cook and Weidner roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a weapon by a felon and not having a firearm owner’s identification card. His court information was unlisted.
DOG BITE
Two women crossed paths Jan. 30 while walking on the bicycle trail near Pritchett School; one of the women had a terrier, which jumped up and reportedly bit the other woman on the forearm. According to the report, the dog owner kept walking, and the victim tried unsuccessfully to get her to stop; the dog owner stated her dog was current on rabies shots, then advised the victim to see a doctor. The police tracked the dog owner down, and she said her terrier may have felt attacked, because the other woman was confronting her about not picking up her dog’s waste.
COMPLAINT
A man working Jan. 30 at a business on the 1100 block of Corporate Grove Drive called police, informing them someone was speeding through the corporate park in a black Porsche 911. Officers arrived and, while speaking to the complainant, saw the Porsche speed by. The officers found and spoke with the driver, who explained that he worked for a motorsports business in the area, and was making sure he had tuned the car properly. The officer ticketed the driver and “asked him to pass word along to his co-workers not to test drive their vehicles in the business park at high rates of speed. He said he would.”
FOUND PROPERTY
A resident of the 1200 block of Brandywyn Lane received a package Jan. 30 from Six Flags Great America. The woman opened the package and found an Illinois drivers license. The license belonged to a man who lived on the 1900 block of Melise Drive in Glenview, and she had no idea who he was, or why anyone had sent his license to her. She gave it to Buffalo Grove police, who were unable to reach its owner.
SUSPICIOUS
Someone removed a residential fence’s gate from its hinges Jan. 29 on the 600 block of White Pine Road, but left no footprints in the snow. Nothing else was stolen or damaged.
Employees of Subway, 1155 N. McHenry Road, called police Jan. 27, reporting they had received 30 strange phone calls that day from the same man. “The caller sometimes sings and laughs,” according to police. Police called the man’s number, and found that “he was trying to contact his sister who lives in Chicago and was given this number.” The officer explained it was actually a Subway, and the man said he would not call again.
