A Buffalo Grove resident who owns an auto dealership in Highland Park may soon open a new location at the site of a dealership that disappeared from the village last year.
Michael Orik, owner of M & I Imports, Inc. in Highland Park, filed a petition last week with Buffalo Grove Village Hall to open a new dealership at 88 E. Dundee Road, the former site of Prestige Leasing.
The previous occupants and their inventory disappeared in October. With the lease for the property now available, Orik said Friday he wanted to turn the empty lot into a business closer to his home.
“Hopefully it won’t be empty for long,” he said.
To open the new location, Orik will need a special-use permit and a variation from the village’s sign code. The Village Board is scheduled to begin considering his requests Jan. 23. Should he get the necessary permissions, Orik said the name of the new dealership will be Lux Cars Chicago, and that he would keep an inventory of about 100 luxury cars on the property. That’s a format similar to what he already does in Highland Park, and what Prestige did for years.
He said he was confident the location, near other dealerships, is right.
“It’s a nice property, and it became available, so I took it,” Orik said. “I live nearby.”
He said his plan is to open in late February.
