Stevenson World’s Fair Jan. 28-29

Updated: February 20, 2012 8:48AM

The Stevenson High School Diversity Council’s annual celebration of countries and culture, World’s Fair, will be held Jan. 28-29. Admission is free and open to the public.

The event takes place in the Forum and Wood Commons of the West Building each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an entertainment showcase in the Performing Arts Center from 3 to 4 p.m.

The two-day celebration seeks to increase knowledge, understanding and appreciation of other countries and cultures. The event also promotes diversity and celebrates the cultures that make up the Stevenson community.

World’s Fair also offers a chance for Stevenson students to showcase either a country of their own heritage, or simply a culture in which they have some interest. Students create booths in which they can use their creativity to provide information about the countries they have selected. Booths and exhibits will include art, videos, games, clothes and food from various countries. Those attending World’s Fair can buy “GoPats” for 50 cents each to purchase food at the booths.

World’s Fair also serves as a charity fundraiser. This year’s beneficiary will be Child Reach International USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping improve children’s access to health care and education, and to empowering children to create positive change through sustainable, community-based solutions.
