Northbrook residents Brandon Tucker and Brian Markus recently ran two drives to collect used books for children in honor of their June 4 bar mitzvahs. The April drives were held in conjunction with the openings days of the Northbrook Girls Softball Association and Northbrook Boys Baseball on the Village Green in Northbrook.
The two collected more than 1,000 used books, which were donated to Bernie’s Book Bank. The book bank collects used children’s books and distributes them to kids who have never owned a book. They get the books to keep as their own.
Bernie’s Book Bank accepts books at the sixth-grade level and below, including board books. For more information, call (847) 780-7323 or visit berniesbookbank.org.
Brandon and Brian Markus also went to the Lyon Magnet School to distribute books to those that don’t have book ownership and gave out the books to the kids at the school.
