KOI Gives Back to the Community: monthly. Koi, 624 Davis Street, Evanston, announces new efforts to get involved in the local community. Beginning this December, Koi will select a local charity each month to donate 1 percent of their proceeds from all edamame orders. Guests are also welcome to make donations at the hostess stand. For December, Koi has selected Connections for the Homeless. Connections for the Homeless is an organization aimed at preventing homelessness and preserving community. Money raised goes to homeless prevention and housing, employment, outreach and support services. In January, Koi will raise funds for Evanston Scholars. Evanston Scholars is a non-profit organization that helps a diverse group of underserved, academically ambitious Evanston students attend and graduate college. They offer workshops, mentors, college coaches and scholars to Evanston Township High School seniors each year. Last year, 100 percent of these students were accepted in 4-year colleges. koievanston.com
Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold an unwrapped Toy Collection for families in need as a Mitzvah (good deed) Project for 2012. This Chanukah/Holiday season the toys will be given to The Ark for distribution to the children and their families. Drop off is at the North Shore office, 3000 Dundee #313 in Northbrook from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.; 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Fridays. Toys are being collected now. Lambs Farm Holiday Lights Gift & Craft Fair: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 30; 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Dec. 1; 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Dec. 2, Arlington Park Racecourse, 2200 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights. Hundreds of vendors. Lambs Farm booth will offer homemade products like their famous butter cookies, chocolates and jams. Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart’s Winter Wonderwalk: Holiday Boutique/Idea House, 1-5 p.m. Dec. 4; gala party 6-8:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Woodlands Academy; Housewalk/Idea House, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 5. Catholic Charities Spirit of Saint Nicholas Ball: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Francis Cardinal George and chair couple James and Molly Perry host this annual black-tie event that kicks off the holiday season at the Hilton Chicago. Proceeds benefit Catholic Charities’ Children’s Programs. The evening includes cocktails, dinner and dancing to the Ken Arlen Orchestra. Tickets are $400. A Silver Lining Foundation: 7-10 p.m., Dec. 13, Frontier Bar, 1072 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago. 5th annual Naughty or Nice Party. For $55, guests will receive two drink tickets for the premium open bar and enjoy appetizers from Frontier’s critically-acclaimed menu. Those who attend will also get to participate in a silent auction that includes items for everyone on your holiday shopping list, with hot ticket prizes such as a pair of roundtrip airline tickets (donated by United Airlines). Proceeds from this event will benefit ASLF’s Buy a Mom a Mammogram program by funding no-cost mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured.

The Dads’ Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF) 9th Annual Rockin’ for a Cure: 7 p.m. Dec. 13, Durty Nellie’s Pub, 180 N. Smith Street, Palatine. WGN-AM Chicago’s Brian Noonan will emcee the event. The featured performer is the high-energy dance party band Libido Funk Circus. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation. The Women’s Board of The Joffrey Ballet 25th Annual Nutcracker Family Dinner: 4 p.m., Dec. 15, Palmer House Hilton, State and Grand ballrooms. The enchanting evening will feature entertainment for children and adults alike, a traditional family-style meal, and a performance of Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker. Guests will have the option of attending the matinee or evening performance of The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 15th. Evening begins at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Palmer House in the State Ballroom, with cocktails, punch, lively entertainment and special “Creation Stations” that the entire family can enjoy. Wilmette Hadassah North Shore Chanukkah Celebration/ Mitzvah Day: 11:30 a.m. Dec. 19, Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah, 3220 Big Tree Ln, Wilmette. Charles Troy will present the remarkable story of “Chicago”. The couvert will be $20. Afternoon will also have a Mitzvah (good deed) of bringing canned foods, paper products and toys for the Ark which works with families in the surrounding communities. Midwest Young Artists to Celebrate 20th Anniversary with Symphony Center Concert: 5 p.m. Dec. 28, Symphony Center, Chicago. In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. The award winning MYA Symphony Orchestra with MYA Alumni and the MYA Big Band will combine on stage for a powerful musical experience, all emceed by actor and advocate David Hyde Pierce. There will be a special performance by Pierce and vocalist Nathan Gunn. The concert will be followed by a dinner at The University Club, Chicago at 7 p.m. Proceeds from concert ticket sales and donations will benefit both MYA and the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter. Tickets for the concert may be purchased online or in person at the Symphony Center website and box office at CSO.org.

At this point, we are not running the Save the Date column in print; however, the situation may change in the future.
Since there are more events on the social calendar than we can possibly attend to cover, Debbie can provide you with guidelines for post-event coverage. Event chairwomen need to provide a post-event press release and high-resolution photographs (with full names and hometowns) of guests. Please include your photographer’s name so we can give proper credit. We no longer assign photographers to events we don’t cover. Many guests have cameras on their cell phones, and we’re happy to accept those images.
