Like Anne Frank, another Jewish Dutch girl, Carla Heijmans, was hiding from the Nazis, but she was more fortunate and survived the war, eventually finding her way to America and marrying another survivor, Ed Lessing. Carla’s story, and the stories of two other Jewish girls who survived — Sophie Turner-Zaretsky, and Flora Hogman — are detailed in a new book by author Richard D. Rosen, “Such Good Girls: The Journey of the Holocaust’s Hidden Child Survivors."
