BUFFALO GROVE — Buffalo Grove police arrested a registered sex offender Tuesday outside of a local elementary school, where he is suspected of trying to arrange a rendezvous with a minor.
According to a department press release, officers on patrol at about 5:45 p.m. Sept. 18 in the area of Kilmer Elementary School spotted a man sitting in the playground. They approached the man — Gregory Gentles, 29, of 286 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove — whom they recognized as a registered sex offender, police said.
Officers reported that Gentles admitted to communicating electronically with a juvenile, and allegedly arranged for them to meet at the playground. Police added that his presence at a school when children were nearby also was against his restrictions as a registered sex offender.
Gentles was arrested and charged with two felonies: unlawful presence within a school zone and solicitation to meet a child.
According to the state’s sex offender registry, Gentles, who has five listed aliases, has been convicted in Cook County of two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, as well as public indecency. He received a $200,000 bond for the new charges and an Oct. 12 court appearance in Rolling Meadows.
