Crowds pack BG Days festival

BUFFALO GROVE — A projected 50,000 visitors packed the Buffalo Grove Days festival grounds last weekend during the village’s annual end of summer community party.
The Labor Day festival, which began with the village’s incorporation in 1958, was headlined by carnival rides, a parade, fireworks, live music and a barbecue contest between Aug. 30 and Sept. 3 at the intersection of Lake-Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard.
Buffalo Grove resident Tim Hoffman’s group finished first in the poultry category and also was selected as “Best of Show.”
Other kid-oriented activities included clowns, stilt-walkers, balloon artists, and appearances by Chicago sports teams’ mascots and Austin Powers and Elvis Presley impersonators.
Additional activities included bean bag and frisbee golf tournaments, a blood drive, an arts and crafts fair, a dog show, a business summit and a performance by the Barefoot Hawaiians dance group.
